Century Farm Dairy Goats started breeding Purebred and American Saanens in the 1980's. We pride ourselves on the "total package" both type and production in our does.
Located in Fountain, MN (southeast Minnesota)
A family-owned micro-dairy farm offering fresh milk and cream and dairy goat breeding stock. We have been raising goats since 2008.
What Breeds Do We Raise?
SAANEN
Saanens are white or light cream-colored only. They're a favorite for dairies due to high milk production and a calm temperament.
LAMANCHA
Any color or color combination, the distinctive feature of the LaMancha is very short ears. This breed was developed in the United States and is known for its calm nature.
NIGERIAN DWARF
Developed in the United States, it is the only registered miniature breed. They produce a proportionate quantity of milk with high butterfat.
What do we like about goats?
It could be done while raising and including my children.
Our farm was first brought into this family in 1883 and my grandchildren are the 7th generation on our farm. The original house was built in 1851 and still stands today and our daughter lives there with her son.
Our children were 3rd generation 4-Hers.
What kind of setup do we use?
Small multi-milking parlor in retro-fitted dairy cow barn. Hand raised kids. Use standard, AI, & ET breeding.
How much milk do we get and what do we do with all of it?
Feed back to kids, has been used to raise bottle calves and pigs. Off farm sale for orphan foals & puppy litters. Use in our own house in the form of soap, cheese, and ice cream.
Other fun facts about us:
I (Melissa) didn't grow up on a farm. Now, in addition to raising goats, my husband is a veterinarian and I am a veterinary technician.
My first great goat was "Hillary". She was on the DHIR Top Ten Production list for 2 years and had an amazing 20 Best of Breeds ribbons and 8 Best In Show in 3 years.
We also raise Red Angus beef cattle.
